- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai Aluminium Company DUBAL, one of the largest producers of premium quality aluminium in the world, crossed yet another landmark in its impressive track record on safety by achieving four million man-hours for the first time without 'lost time injury' during Potline 7B&9B expansion.
An official celebration was organized at the DUBAL premises today (Thursday September 14, 2006), in recognition of the contribution towards this safety record by the more than 2,500 contract workers, consultants and other related staff.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials including Mr. Abdullah J,. M. Kalban, CEO, DUBAL, Mr. Mohammed Al Ghurair, Managing Director, DUBAL, besides all the department managers, representatives of contractors, consultants and more than 2,500 workers.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kalban said: "This unprecedented achievement was possible because DUBAL makes safety a priority. The company continuously implements various safety initiatives to emphasize this philosophy. Today's celebration is a recognition of the result of these initiatives."
Mr. Yousuf Bastaki (General Manager, Engineering, Expansion projects and Technology Development) directing the line 7B and line 9B expansion said that this is a record breaking event in Dubal's construction activity that we are very proud of. This could not have happened without the full commitment and dedication of all stakeholders towards safety. He further elaborated that since the start of this project, the entire team adopted the slogan "Safety First" around which several educational and incentive based initiatives were introduced to encourage the safety behaviour around the site.
Weekly talks to contractor's workers were conducted by one of Dubal's senior project manager and Dubal's consultant's project manager, which addressed aspects of safety and safe behaviour.
This milestone is a great achievement especially that has been reached in a very stringent environment of small construction sites where 2500 workers from different contractors of different nationality are struggling to complete their tasks on tight fast track schedule.
The 2,500-odd workers were awarded symbolic gifts as a token of appreciation of their contribution to DUBAL's safety record during the celebrations.
