Welcare Hospital begins comprehensive Breast Cancer National Awareness Campaign

As part of the program Welcare will conduct free screenings for breast cancer for the general public and hold several awareness activities throughout the campaign. The awareness activities and screening sessions are designed to give women the information they need to protect themselves from a disease that afflicts more than one million women a year around the world.

The "Safe and Sound" program, held in conjunction with Burjuman, is a national awareness campaign that is aimed at women of all ages and backgrounds. The campaign also seeks to influence and educate not only those must vulnerable to breast cancer, but those who can affect a positive change, including government bodies and health care officials.

"Welcare puts a great deal of effort behind its education programs," said Mr. Sakkie Van Der Vyver ,Hospital Manager of Welcare Hospital. "One of our main goals is to help the community around us, and our education programs are a key to attaining this goal. Our strong commitment to patients isn't just limited to the hospital room; we also are committed to educating them so that they recognize illness and can come in and receive applicable treatment to help better their lives."

Welcare will also participate in the Pink Walkathon on Friday, October 23, beginning at BurJuman. The walkathon will help raise awareness of breast cancer in the community and draw significant attention to the plight of breast cancer sufferers around the world. The hospital will also play a prominent life saving role in the Walkathon by providing an ambulance for those participating.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an international campaign that has been instrumental in educating millions of women about breast cancer, especially the importance of detecting the disease in its earliest stages through screening mammography and clinical breast examination.
