Challenges facing Mid East newspapers under the spotlight

Speakers from global media companies will address publishing executives on the latest developments in the publishing and media industry, as part of a full-day seminar organised by UK based KnowledgeView.

Among the international speakers at the seminar to be held on September 21, at the Dubai Press Club, will be Reiner Mittelbach, CEO Ifra, the world's leading organisation for newspaper and media publishing, who will talk about Ifra's new services to Arab publishers and the challenges facing newspaper publishers in fast changing media markets.

Marcus Wright, Senior Editor of Dow Jones Newswires will talk about the latest trends in business journalism, focusing on the need for enhanced editorial skills and on the business journalism training services offered by Dow Jones Newswires.

In later sessions other executives from Dow Jones Newswires, Simon Rodda, International Product Marketing Director and Tom Waite, Regional Sales Director, will give an overview of the newly-launched Arabic news service by Zawya Dow Jones. Lina Hamdan, head of the translation department at Al-Hayat international newspaper, Beirut, will talk about the challenges of translating real-time quality business stories from Zawya Dow Jones, using an advanced web-based editorial and delivery system supplied by KnowledgeView.

Duri Al Ajrami, Managing Director I-Gency. will talk about the future of online advertising in the Middle East. Other sessions will include speakers from Ifra on its work with Arab publishers for building an Arab regional publishing community linked to the global publishing industry, and its pioneering NewsPlex programme.

The afternoon session will be devoted to demonstrating a working pilot of a modern cross-media editorial workflow based on technologies from KnowledgeView and Adobe. The demonstrations will be held by KnowledgeView and GraphEast.
