"Consumers in the GCC have identified the positive impact on mobility and notebook sales are outperforming desktop PCs in the region," said C. H. Lee, President, LG Electronics Gulf FZE. According to research company DisplaySearch, a part of the NPD Group, factors influencing the growing popularity of notebook PCs reveals that the most popular wide sizes are in the 14 and 15-inches segment.

"The R1's 14-inch screen contributes to the reducing the size of the notebook, making it sleek and portable. While the fine bright WXGA TFT LCD screen makes it perfect for watching movies or playing games, or designing."

For optimal graphics performance the R1 comes with the discrete graphic card, NVIDIA® GeForeceTM Go 7400, made even better with its fine bright LCD technology. The notebook is also equipped with DDR2 667 MHz memory and SATA HDD (150 MB data transmission speed per second), and boasts a sleek silver finish.

It also comes equipped with an embedded 5-in-1 memory card reader that can read diverse memory cards. A 6 cell battery pack ensures users are connected for longer.

Lee added: "These features are bound to tempt a new wave of laptop buyers. Consumers have now realised that thin and light is better, that wireless is unbelievably convenient and battery life is important."

Lee maintained that LG recorded a 38 per cent increase in its PC and notebook sales in the fist half of 2006. "Aggressive pricing, features, and functionality have fuelled the growth of our notebook PC's, and led LG to create even more advanced products."

The company plans to unveil a range of notebook PC's during GITEX 2006.
