- PRESS RELEASE
Under the patronage of HE Darwish bin Ismail al-Al-Balushi, Undersecretary of the Finance Ministry, in the Sultanate of Oman, the activities of a seminar on "International Experiences in rehabilitation for SMEs" will be launched Monday, September 18, 2006, in Masqat, Sultanate of Oman.
Organizers of the seminar think that faltering SMEs in the industrial sector has bad effects on its performance, as this phenomenon costs local economies great losses; contributes in impeding the economic programs associated with those projects; and exceeds this to strategic effects on more than one level, further to that it represents a clear picture of natural and human resources loss.
The seminar browses some international experiences implemented for the treatment of this phenomenon and sets a projection on the rehabilitation for SMEs to support the impeding factories by means of offering technical and financial support as well as restructuring so as to help them both: compete and sustain. The seminar agenda also includes the presentation of four work papers further to an open discussion session on the seminar's theme.
It is expected that the seminar subject matter attracts stakeholders in SMEs in GCC member states from the ministries and authorities of industry besides the chambers of commerce and industry, commercial and industrial banks; in addition, the seminar targets owners of SMEs.
50% of SMEs face retardation in their first year; something which reinforces the importance of paying attention to feasibility studies and scientific research prior to starting projects.
