Under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, UAE Vice-president, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry participated in the 3rd Corporate Social Responsibility Summit, held yesterday at the J.W Marriott Hotel in Dubai.

As a keynote speaker, Hamad Buamim, DCCI Deputy Director General highlighted the leading role DCCI plays in its capacity towards society in Dubai through a number of human initiatives such as, the "Dubai the City that Cares" campaign launched in 1998.

"We are aware that in order to implement change in society we have to start from within by setting positive role models for business communities, more & more organizations will follow our example, and changes will become evident throughout society," said Buamim.

He explained that the goal behind launching "Dubai, The City that Cares" was primarily to activate the retail sector and support worthy causes.

Among other beneficiaries of this initiative were UNICEF, World Food Program, UAE Red Crescent, Mohammed Bin Rashid Charity organization, Dubai Aid City, Dubai Charity Association, MSF, Al Noor Training Center for Children with Special needs and Medecin Sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders).

"I am proud to use this platform to announce that Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry will be launching two unique and special awards, one for the best executed CSR Program and the other to directly fund the best charitable, social, or educational project established in UAE," he added.

"DCCI has much to offer, from research resources to education and consultancy services. We hope that the institutions that we have established will continue to play an important role in realizing Dubai's vision of becoming a true global city," Buamim concluded.

It is worth noting that DCCI has established two institutions to support high levels of education and social awareness, the University of Dubai and Dubai Ethics Resource Center. The University ensures that students are kept up to date with the latest developments in business practices, while DERC educates the DCCI members about the best practice corporate ethics and corporate governance.
