The organization is now called GS1 throughout the world and GS1 Bahrain in the local market.

Raed Al-Samahiji, the organization Founder, President and CEO said:
"This is much more than a mere name change because apart from continuing fostering the use of technologies such as bar coding and EDI in any type of business transactions, this change also implies a renewed portfolio of services and products such as Global Data Synchronization (GDSN), the identification of products through the use of EPC technologies, Global Upstream Supply Initiative (GUSI) and traceability solutions not only for cattle and agricultural products but also for any product that requires traceability and have the end user as its final objective".

Under the slogan: "One world, One System, One global language of business", GS1 Bahrain will position itself as the number one standard organisation to manage the supply and demand chains, working not only with big companies but also with Small and Medium Enterprises, the latter being one of its main targets.
