Regional Capital Markets are becoming a reality

At today's 3rd Middle East Capital Markets Conference in Dubai, Mr. Christian R. Mouchbahani, Head of Corporate Finance at Dubai Bank, highlighted that despite volatility and market corrections here and there, markets across the region, whether financial, real estate, commodities or other continue to show immense resilience.

He further went on to analyze the recent emergence of equity capital markets that are being mainly driven by strong corporate earnings, high oil prices, positive macroeconomic data, low interest rates and post 9/11 capital inflow to regional investments.

Mr. Mouchbahani stressed that the four main key factors for this success to continue and create sustainable viable capital markets are i) Investors and Liquidity, that would need the right market environment; ii) Governments, Companies and Families, that would see capital markets as a viable and efficient way to tap capital; iii) Regulators and Markets, that create a clear, transparent and legislative friendly framework; and iv) Financial Institutions and Markets that are key in developing any viable market activity. He went on to further evolve, that it was banks and capital markets that created the industrial revolution in Europe in the 19th century, and they were also core to the development of the US economy.
