Renowned German artist holds exhibition in Emirates Palace
- United Arab Emirates: Monday, September 18 - 2006 at 14:25
- PRESS RELEASE
German painter and sculptor Hans-Joachim Pietrula will hold a one-man exhibition at the West Wing Gallery of Emirates Palace for one month beginning 17 October 2006.
"We're honoured to be hosting an exhibition featuring the works of a highly esteemed artist. Through the years, he managed to put together an impressive portfolio of painting and sculptures which I am sure will be appreciated by art lovers in Abu Dhabi," said Noel Massoud, General Manager, Emirates Palace.
Pietrula's exhibit at the Emirates Palace comes on the heels of his successful participation at the last Index Dubai, where his works impressed H.H. Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; and H.H. Shaikha Salama Bint Hamdan.
Of his forthcoming exhibit at the Emirates Palace, Pietrula said, "This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase my art to the residents of Abu Dhabi, who I know are very passionate about the arts. I will be showcasing a range of my artworks - from paintings to sculptures - that depict a number of interesting subjects, including portraits of people and beautiful sceneries inspired by nature."
The German artist started dabbling in painting at the early age of fifteen, entering mainly art competitions where, not surprisingly, he won. He then studied stage painting professionally as an art scholar at the Folkwangschule in Essen. One of his most important awards came in 1957 when he won second prize in a competition organized by the Fine Arts Thyssen Foundation.
In 1986 began a new phase in his artistic evolution when he entered for the first time some designs in a glass art workshop. Here he created his leaded cabinet glass paintings from valuable glasses with magnificent picture motives.
Pietrula works with different techniques and material, including watercolours, collage, pencil and charcoal drawings, chalk work, mix techniques in oil in various styles such as naturalistic, impressionist, and abstract. He also creates sculptures out of glass, wood, metal and stone.
