His Excellency Majid Al Shamsi, 2nd Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), yesterday received His Excellency Gerrit F. Schotte, Minister of Economic Affairs and Tourism of Curacao Island in Latin America.
Al Shamsi welcomed the delegation and stressed the DCCI's interest in supporting its members' trade ties with their counterparts in other countries through receiving a large number of foreign trade delegations, as well as enhancing these relations through the active role of trade representative offices in those countries which promote businesses and investment opportunities available.
"The DCCI is ready to assist the Curacao Island officials to open their trade representative office in Dubai and help them in promoting their investment opportunities which would contribute to the attraction of more businessmen from the GCC countries who can develop bilateral trade with the Island," said Al Shamsi.
He stressed the importance of arranging meetings and organizing conferences and workshops to introduce the business community in Dubai to the economic potential of Curacao Island and its fields of investment, as well as the government support for investors. He pointed out that the economic figures in Dubai are interested in opening new markets and enhancing trade exchange with the countries of Latin America.
His Excellency Gerrit F. Schotte, Minister of Economic Affairs and Tourism in Curacao Island, expressed his country's interest in developing the bilateral trade ties with Dubai through opening trade representative offices in both countries. He assured that Curacao plays a key role in being the main gate to access the trade markets of Latin America for the benefit of Arab, UAE and GCC businessmen.
"Our visit aims at introducing Curacao and its economic and investment potential and to help the business communities in the UAE and other Middle East countries to safely access into the Latin American markets. The island has a strong infrastructure, developing economy and flexible European-flavored trade laws and a significant business and logistics hub in the region," said Schotte.
"Opening a commercial representative office of Dubai in Curacao Island would help promote the emirate's services, commodities and investment opportunities in the island and other Latin America countries. The office would also enable you to enhance your businesses with a large number of Arabic origin businessmen who work in different fields of trade, tourism, oil refining and real estate," he added.
