The event took place at The Conference Board 2006 Business and Education Conference in which Dr. Khaled Toukan, Jordanian Minister of Education and Dr. Hoda Baraka, Egypt's First Deputy Minister of ICT participated.
'The private sector, while working in concert with governments and NGOs, can play an invaluable role in improving educational opportunities around the world. For nearly 40 years, Intel has worked to provide greater access to educational tools, including computers and other technology, to ensure that teachers have the training they need to help their students grow; and to promote policies and programs that encourage investment in math and science education,' said Dr. Barrett.
Barrett inaugurated the conference with the session: 'Enabling the Global Knowledge Economy: The Role of Public-Private Partnerships in Education.' He also addressed the 'Challenges of Educational Leadership' along with Dr. Khaled Toukan, Jordanian Minister of Education.
'The World is transforming at a very fast pace, and will continue to do so. Technology is a catalyst and always moves forward. To be connected means to have opportunity and competition resulting in a healthy marketplace and economy. We have the opportunity to create and cultivate that knowledge and the capability to advance social and economic well being, not only of individuals, but of nations,' said Dr. Barrett in his speech.
Intel has in place two major initiatives to promote education in developing nations worldwide. The 'World Ahead' program and 'Digital Transformation Initiative for the Middle East' aim to enhance lives by accelerating access to uncompromised technology for everyone, anywhere in the world. Focused on people in the world's developing communities, it integrates and extends Intel's efforts to advance progress in key areas: accessibility, connectivity, local entrepreneurship and education.
Intel's goal is not only to extend affordable PC access but to develop the right PCs tailored to local needs, drive critical connectivity, cultivate sustainable local capabilities, and provide the education needed to make a meaningful difference in people's lives.
