A joint venture consortium of UK-based London and Regional Properties and Dubai World's investment arm Istithmar has paid $1bn for the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in South Africa. The acquisition will be partly financed through a $700m loan with South African bank Investec, with the buyers putting in the balance. One of the most successful developments in Cape Town, the Waterfront is visited by 22m people a year. Nakheel Hotels and Resorts will help prepare a future master development plan.
