BJ Services awarded well services contract in Qatar

BJ Tubular Services today announced its contract from Maersk Oil Qatar AS to provide a range of services on all the company's wells in Qatar, particularly in the Al Shaheen Field.

In addition to hammer conductor-driving services, BJ is supplying cold-cutting services.

This contract is being carried out by BJ Tubular Services personnel and equipment from its operations base in Doha, Qatar, with administrative support being supplied by the division's office in Dubai, UAE.

BJ crews will use the state-of-the-art hydraulic pile driving system known as the S90 Hydrohammer to drive 20-inch conductors to create foundations for the wells included in Maersk Oil Qatar's drilling program offshore Qatar.

Building on Success

"We are extremely pleased to be given the opportunity to continue building on our long relationship with Maersk Oil Qatar AS," said Kenny Watt, division manager. "The award of this contract further underscores our commitment to providing tubular installation services in Qatar, and throughout the Middle East," he added.

BJ have since 2005 provided a similar service to Maersk Oil and Gas on a number of wells located in the Danish sector of the North Sea. Currently, BJ is providing Maersk Oil and Gas with hammer conductor-driving services, conductor running and cold-cutting services. Since 2002, BJ has successfully driven conductors on more than 100 Maersk Oil and Gas wells in the North Sea. Since the early 1990s, BJ has been running casing and tubing, driving conductors and supplying PCE (primary cementation equipment) products for Maersk Oil projects around the world.

Hammer Services on the Rise

BJ Tubular Services performed its first hydraulic hammer conductor-driving operation in 1995 in The Netherlands. Since then, the division has delivered hundreds of single-slot hydraulic hammer conductor and caisson-driving operations worldwide.
