DM undertakes Dhs53 million creek development projects

Dubai Municipality has during the past few years implemented several strategic projects to develop Dubai Creek with an estimated cost of Dhs53 million.
"As part of the constant efforts of Dubai Municipality to enhance the Dubai Creek, which has a strategic and historic importance as a link in the commercial life of the city and as the main artery for the economic movement in the heart of Dubai, we have taken up these projects with much significance," he said.
Al Maidour said that many vital amenities were installed along the creek during the recent years taking in view of the economic, trade, tourist, recreational and environmental aspects even while preserving the heritage, beauty and characteristic facets of the place.
The wide variety of projects taken up along both sides of the creek was supervised by the Coastal Management Section in the Municipality. These projects include routine maintenance of the coastal amenities and new works related to coastal environment.
The projects implemented by the Municipality also include Jumeirah Beach Area Development worth Dhs47 million, whereas the three orders for making changes in the original contract that cost another Dhs5million.
The changes include making the Round Head bigger, which was based on the recommendation of the Investment Office in order to utilize it as a restaurant. The second change was installing Quay Wall to protect the floating pontoons and the third change was giving finishing touches to the walkways.
Al Maidour said a project on the characteristics of the sediments and a study on the creek water were accomplished, in addition, it has been approved to take up other additional works that will cost Dhs3.8 million and last for eight months.
He said the third phase of separate maintenance and temporary protection work of the beach has been commenced. The third phase of routine marine amenities maintenance, sign boards for coastal areas and development of floating pontoons at Creek Park were the other projects. The additional works cost Dhs170,000.
Al Maidour said that the Municipality has started the project for building sand wall on Al Seef area of Dubai Creek. Tenders have been floated for this work and it is in the design stage, which will last for six months.
Other creek development projects include development of Dubai Creek establishments, setting up a good multi-purpose industrial system, works on protecting the rocks at the entrance of Dubai Creek, project for offering marine data predictions and investing it commercially, setting up facilities and safety and security equipments at Umm Suqeim and the second phase of Dubai Coastal Monitoring Programme are the additional works that will cost Dhs3 million.
