The new rules stipulate that children under 3 years must use the child restraint appropriate for their weight in any vehicle (the only exemption is when traveling in a taxi). Children aged from 3 years up to 12 years (or 135cm in height, whichever they reach first) must also use the appropriate child restraint. Drivers of vehicles will be held responsible for the use of the child restraint and will be liable to penalties and fines.

Speaking in Dubai about the new rules in the UK, Managing Director of Holiday Autos Middle East, Nazar Musa, commented: "In effect, all children under 12 years/135cm in height must use the appropriate restraint, while traveling in a car in the UK. Families traveling to the UK must be aware of these new rules and ensure they follow them or they risk incurring penalties - a 30 pound on-the-spot fine for the driver or a maximum 500 pound fine if convicted in court. More importantly, they risk the lives of their children. The Department for Transport believes the new rules could prevent over 2,000 deaths and injuries to children, every year in the UK. At Holiday Autos Middle East, we will be advising all our customers traveling to the UK of the new rules and we already offer pre-booking of baby seats and children's seats for all our rentals."
