Eversheds has been working for the last three years in co-operation with a leading local firm of commercial lawyers A Rahman Mohamed Al-Jufairi Advocates & Legal Consultants (Al-Jufairi). The granting of the licence from the QFC marks a new phase for the firm in the Gulf region as the office in Qatar becomes a fully integrated and wholly owned office of Eversheds LLP.
Chris Jobson, partner with Eversheds LLP, who has been on secondment to Al-Jufairi in Qatar for the last two and a half years and who will head up Eversheds office said:
"We will continue to work closely with Al-Jufair. This is by no means the end of the road for that relationship and we will continue to refer work to each other. However, this is a very exciting time for Eversheds LLP. Being the first ever international law firm to gain a licence to operate in the Qatar Financial Centre will put us right at the heart of the business centre of the country, especially as we will be working side by side with existing clients of Eversheds who are now also based in the QFC."
Lawyer Sami Abu Shaikha previously with the Qatar Ministry of Justice will join Chris in establishing the office in Qatar together with a bi-lingual English qualified lawyer.
Eversheds International acts for numerous governments around the world and a significant number international banks, oil and gas companies and multinational businesses. Some of Eversheds' international clients include HSBC Plc, Schroders Plc, Centrica Plc, Bakkavor Group, Legal & General Plc, Adidas Salomon AG, Apple and Montagu to name a few.
