Intel and Egypt's Minister of Education launch Intel's Arabic "Teach Essentials Online" program
- Egypt: Monday, October 02 - 2006 at 14:34
- PRESS RELEASE
Intel Corporation today announced the launch of its worldwide Teach Essentials Online (TEO) program, to be previewed in Egypt first.
"Egypt is the first country to launch the TEO-Teach Essentials Online. This program was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and we thank them for their support. The program is considered the hybrid model of the face-to-face Intel® Teach Program curriculum," said Khaled Elamrawi, Intel's General Manager for Egypt, Levant & North Africa. "We have created a program using a pioneer IT Egyptian partner who has a very successful testing and production period," he added.
The objective of TEO is to address the Egyptian teachers with methodologies and tools to help them integrate technology in their regular national curriculum. This can save up to fifty percent of face-to-face time needed, which will help ramp up the implementation rates recommended by the Egyptian Education Initiative (EEI) sponsored by the World Economic Forum.
According to Elamrawi, launching TEO in Egypt was inspired by the launch of the Egypt Education Initiative (EEI) announced at the World Economic Forum in Sharm El Sheikh last May, where Intel also committed to the Egypt's First Lady, Suzanne Mubarak, with huge contributions to the education sector
"As part of Intel's commitment to the EEI, Intel had already pledged to donate 8,000 PC's to schools in Egypt, to install 2 Wi-Max stations to benefit internet connectivity in schools, and to train 650,000 teachers in Egypt by 2010," said Elamrawi. "TEO is a further contribution to our support of the EEI and our overall commitment to spear-heading Digital Transformation in Egypt through our World Ahead Program which Intel launched earlier in the year to transform lives in developing communities through technology access, Internet connectivity, and education."
Intel has already trained 54,000 teachers in Egypt within the Intel® Teach Program program that started in Egypt in May 2004, and which will now include the TEO. Intel will now bring trainers and technical support from Intel US, who will run the first Train of the Trainer (TOT) for the TEO, so that there will be 25-30 Senior Trainers to train 200 Master Teachers who will cascade forward the learning process.
"The overall impact will make a great difference to the students' studies and strongly affect the learning environment of the Egyptian youth," said Elamrawi. "And we would therefore like to thank His Excellency Dr El Gamal and the Ministry of Education for strongly supporting us in our program."
