Located at Camp Buehring and Camp Virginia, the centers will provide much-needed programs and services to the increasing number of troops transitioning to and from combat zones in the region.

"We are pleased to be opening two more USO centers in Kuwait, expanding our reach to troops supporting Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom," said Edward A. Powell, USO president and CEO. "We especially thank Lieutenant General R. Steven Whitcomb and all of those whose generous donations helped make these centers a reality."

USO Camp Buehring and USO Camp Virginia are expected to serve up to 58,000 service members. Each of the centers will provide free e-mail and Internet access, entertainment lounges with large screen televisions, video gaming consoles, lounge areas, libraries and cafés, as well as hold community events and activities. The centers also will offer service members the opportunity to participate in the United Through Reading® program, which allows troops to stay connected to the children in their lives through the medium of reading aloud on tape.

The centers were made possible through an anonymous $1 million donation to the USO and with the support of the Department of Defense. Cellular phones were donated by AT&T.

Currently, the USO operates 129 centers around the world, providing programs and services to military personnel and their families. USO centers offer free e-mail and Internet access, prepaid international phone cards, entertainment and lounge areas, libraries and travel assistance.
