Syria spends up on tourism

Syria invested $940m in tourism projects last year in a bid to double the number of annual visitors to 7m by 2010, according to a senior government official quoted by Gulf Daily News. The government plans to open offices abroad to promote tourism and attract foreign investment in the sector. Arab tourists represent around 74% of the country's annual visitors.
