Fierce industry competition tops telecom conference agenda

The 2006 series of telecoms conferences culminates with Telecoms World Middle East 2006, the event that will bring together CEO's and directors from every major operator in the region.

Following on the event's success in 2005, Telecoms World Middle East 2006 will address the crucial strategic decisions that face executives in the Middle East region after 12 eventful months in the industry. The conference, organised by Terrapinn, is set to take place from December 10-13 at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai.

"Telecoms World Middle East is dedicated to ensuring delegates walk away with a competitive advantage, from understanding the impact of deregulation to the legalisation of VoIP and changing operator business models," said Edward Haines, Conference Director for Telecoms World Middle East, Terrapinn.

"This year saw some major milestones in the region's telecom industry, and the milestone achievers will get together at this event to discover how they can meet growing challenges. Some of this year's highlights include Jordan Telecom's integration of its four operations into a single organisation, the Nokia-Siemens merger and the Etisalat consortium winning Egypt's 3rd mobile license. These changes will have a significant impact on the market, and have set the stage for an exciting year to come."


Telecoms World 2005 saw a strong attendance, of which 36% were C-level management and 41% sales and marketing heads. Attendees visited from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, Afghanistan, Algeria, Lebanon, Pakistan, Palestine, South Africa, Japan, Western Europe and USA. Notably 27% of delegates came from UK and Western Europe indicating a huge interest to invest in this dynamic market.

The conference will be split into three consecutive days to address several issues including strategies for operator growth, IP peering and interconnection, investment in the Middle East Telecoms and the potential of broadband services. The pre-conference workshop, led by Siemens, aims to communicate to industry players how managed services can be used to create strategic carrier-vendor partnerships that support continuous business improvement. The conference will also dedicate a full day to presentations and discussions on WiMAX, where speakers from industry innovators will talk about converged broadband services and the impact of WiMAX

TelecomsWorld Middle East is organised by Terrapinn, publishers of Total Telecom magazine and organisers of the Carriers World series of events. The conference is sponsored by Siemens, TeliaSonera International Carrier, Redback Networks, France Telecom, Qualcomm, LCC and Telecom Italia Sparkle.
