By segment, Al Majid Motors Co's passenger cars sales increased 3.4% while recreational vehicles (RV) sales increased (4WD and family vans) 6.1% and light commercial vehicles experienced a 17.9% increase.

Though the first quarter of the 2006, sales of Kia vehicles in UAE have risen by 38.0% year-on-year, the second quarter sales were relatively stagnant due to various external reasons.

Continued strong sales of the popular Sportage compact SUV along with other hot selling models such as the A-segment Picanto and the C-segment Cerato cumulatively contributed 54.1% of Al Majid Motors Co's total nine months sales for 2006. Passenger cars contributed 60.7% of the total sales during the nine month period while recreational vehicles and light commercial vehicles contributed 31.9% and 7.4% respectively.

"During this nine month period, the steady supply of vehicles, the launch of the New Optima and Carnival models and the opening of our new showroom in Sharjah & Ajman, along with our sales promotions, helped us keep up the momentum of continuous growth of KIA retail sales in the UAE and we are confident that this momentum will continue when we introduce further upgraded models",

said Mr. Samir Tayeh, General Manager of Al Majid Motors Co.

"This steady growth is clear evidence that the Kia brand is rapidly gaining recognition in the UAE as not just a maker of small compact passenger vehicles, but rather as a trusted manufacturer of a complete vehicle line-up, from the entry-level sub-compact vehicle to highly competitive recreational vehicles", he added.
