Omar Hijazi joins Interstandards Executive Committee

Interstandards - the Arab Internet Standards Organization - announced today that Mr. Omar Hijazi, CEO of Tejari, the Middle East's leading eCommerce provider, will be joining the Executive Committee of Interstandards.

Mr. Hijazi will bring the experience and insight of more than 20 years spent working in the high tech industry to Interstandards, as well as expertise gained through driving Tejari to attain its leading position as a $3 billion marketplace today. Mr. Hijazi previously held senior roles with A.T. Kearny Inc and Ernst & Young, working primarily in Silicon Valley. Since taking on the CEO role, Mr. Hijazi has been instrumental in raising awareness and acceptance of the benefits and scope of eCommerce for the Arab World.

In addition to Mr. Hijazi, The eight member executive committee includes Mr. Jamal Abdul Salam - Executive Director of Dubai Internet City, Dr. Saeed Al Barwani - CEO of EHDF, Mr. Amjad Al Dwaik - Chairman of Awtad Investments, Mr. Ahmad Humaid - CEO of Syntax Digital, Eng. Abdulaziz Al Mahmoud - Chief Editor of Aljazeera.net, Mr. Ahmed Baig - Manager for Security - EHDF & Mr. Duri Al Ajrami - MD of Interstandards.

Mr. Omar Hijazi, CEO of Tejari said, "It is an honour to participate in this committee and be part of this pioneering initiative. Interstandards was launched in November 2005 with the aim of creating industry standards for Arab commercial websites. Developed in association with the British Standards Institution (BSI), the quality programme is leveraged as a joint initiative with Dubai Internet City and eHosting DataFort. The first draft for the standards is expected to be published later this year.
