- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai Women's College (DWC) held an Iftar dinner for its students, faculty and staff members and their families and several guests invited by the College.
The event, which was attended by more than 400 people, included several educational, entertainment, and charity activities. Dr. Howard Reed, Director of DWC, welcomed everyone and thanked the organizers of the Iftar dinner emphasizing the significance of building a strong DWC community through increased cultural interaction between students and faculty/staff. The Iftar dinner at DWC has become an annual tradition during which different activities take place every year. Dr. Anees Al Rawi, Dean of Girls' Science College at Baghdad University, was DWC's guest speaker.
Several charity efforts were presented during the event. A Mini Ramadan Bazaar was able to raise funding for needy students at the College. A Garage Sale, an initiative organized by the Student Parliament, was held during the Iftar day through which several donated items by students and faculty/staff members were sold for the purpose of supporting the Financial Aid Student Fund at the College. A representative from Diddl Stationary was present during the event to sell Diddl stationary items for the purpose of donating the money to Financial Aid Student Fund.
Year 1 Health Science students have also organized an Iftar supper table sale in cooperation with Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF or Doctors without Borders), at which Eid and New Year greeting cards and sweets were sold to support saving lives of people diagnosed with meningitis or polio.
The Fastathon is another charity effort DWC organizes annually to demonstrate the spiritual and health benefits of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. Non-Muslim non-fasting DWC teachers participate in the Fastathon by fasting for one day. They challenge their students who in turn donate money for the winners. Money collected goes to Financial Aid Student Fund.
A group from Sama Al Enshad participants entertained Iftar guests with several Islamic songs. A children's area was designated for face painting, drawing, photography, games, and cartoons activities.
