21st edition of MidEast Watch and Jewellery show to open at Expo Centre Sharjah on October 30

The region's longest running watch and jewellery event, the MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show, is all set to open at Expo Centre Sharjah on October 30, 2006.

The five-day event, which is in its 21st edition this year, will host over 300 master jewellers from across the globe.

A majority of the exhibiting jewellers will be from Bahrain, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, USA, and the UAE. Besides individual participation, national pavilions from Hong Kong, India, Italy, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, will also be featured at the event.

Keeping up with its reputation of being the region's launch pad for the season's latest jewellery collections, the coming edition of the MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show will witness the unveiling of several new jewellery designs by both UAE-based as well as foreign jewellers.

"The MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show is the region's most established watch and jewellery event," said Mr. Saif Al Midfa, Director General, Expo Centre Sharjah.

"It is an event that is keenly awaited by both jewellers from across the world as well jewellery connoisseurs in the region. For the former, the event, given its credibility and visitor turnout, is the prefect platform for launching new designs and collections in the region. For the latter, the show is an event that showcases the all latest collections and designs in the region under a single roof,"


he added.

Mr. Saif Al Midfa further said that rapid growth of the show over the years is a reflection of the strong affinity that people in the Middle East have towards jewellery.

According to the World Gold Council, within the UAE, Gold consumption stood at 25.9 tonnes in the second quarter of 2006. During this period, the value of gold sales in the country amounted to Dhs 2.3 billion.

Total gold demand in other Gulf States (Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar) stood at 10.9 tonnes. In terms of value of demand, it increased by 10 per cent in the second quarter of 2006 for the whole of the Gulf region.

Gold retail investment in bars and coins increased by 60 per cent over the same quarter in 2005.

The coming edition of the MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show will display a fascinating range of gold and diamond jewllery, precious stones, pearl sets, watches, and jewellery displays,.
"The MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show has an exhibitor retention rate of over 90%," said Mr. Saif Al Midfa.

"Besides exhibitors from previous editions, the coming edition will feature new participants from India, Italy, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. There also two new pavilions from Thailand and Malaysia this year," he said.

Mr. Saif Al Midfa also said that the Italian pavilion in the coming edition will occupy double the exhibition space compared to the last show.

A major attraction of the coming MidEast Watch and Jewellery show will be the daily raffle draws where visitors will have the chance to win gold bars and other fabulous prizes on purchases of over Dhs. 500.

The MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show will be open from 10 am to 10 pm on October 30th and from 3 pm to 10 pm on October 31st, November 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The event will be open exclusively to ladies on November 1st and 2nd from 10 am to 3 pm.

The MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show is being organized by Expo Centre Sharjah with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
