IIRA organizes Shari'a Quality Rating workshop

The Islamic International Rating Agency (IIRA) has announced a Workshop relating to Shari'a Quality Rating due to be held on November 12, 2006 at the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF), Manama.

Article continues below

The Workshop aims to provide practical insights into the Shari'a Quality Rating, the evaluation process for Islamic financial institutions and instruments, and explore how Ratings can serve as an effective tool for introducing standards for greater disclosure and appropriate governance within the global Islamic financial institutions.

Shari'a Quality Rating evaluates Islamic financial institutions and products according to the extent that they adhere and respect the element of Shari'a legitimacy. It is a unique service provided by IIRA alone. IIRA hopes to become a reference on which investors and financiers can rely to have a reliable assessment of quality.

The Workshop will also focus on such key topics as the structure of Islamic financial institutions, the objectives of Shari'a Quality Rating, and understanding the difference between Shari'a Quality Rating and Shari'a Audit.

The current sponsors of the workshop are Unicorn Investment Bank, Emirates Islamic Bank, Khaleeji Commercial Bank, Bahrain Islamic Bank, AlBaraka Banking Group, The Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC) and The Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD).
