The two-day trip coincided with the highly anticipated re-opening of the Historic Green Vault in Dresden this September, which is the repository of treasures accumulated by the Elector of Saxony. A selection of A. Lange & Söhne's jewellery watch collection will be exhibited in the Vault where the timepieces will interact in a subtle dialogue with the historic treasures, paying homage to the masters of a bygone era.
The trip comprised a tour of the manufactory where watches are crafted incorporating aesthetic and technological features. The guided manufactory tour followed the steps that produce the Lange timepieces: cutting the individual 300 to 600 parts that make up the watches, the meticulous accuracy checks on the parts, the double assembly, the engraving, with all the finishing being done in the traditional manner by a skilled craftsman, was an informative and memorable experience for everyone. Moreover, the day involved a visit to the patented hairspring production at A. Lange & Söhne.
Prior to the manufactory visit, A. Lange & Söhne CEO, Fabian Krone gave the Middle East press a genuinely enthused viewing of the watches including the purists' ultimate timepiece, the RICHARD LANGE - a three-hand wristwatch presented in Geneve last April. Prior to the viewing of the watches, the reporters were shown highlights of the cultural tour in Dresden, which gave insight into the Lange heritage that goes back more than 160 years. The sense of history was felt through a tour of sites such as Königstein Fortress and stories about the Semper Opera house with its extraordinary five-minute digital clock, ranking today among the world's most historically important clocks. Ferdinand Adolph Lange himself helped to build this amazing timepiece in 1841 and it became the inspiration for the outsize date; a Lange trademark today.
