As part of their ongoing development and improvement strategy Batelco is in the process of replacing all existing fixed line switches with the next generation network.

Batelco recently commenced the combined Voice & Data project and to date, two exchanges, at Rowda in Hamad Town and Ras Roman in Manama have been upgraded. The NGN project is the main enabler for Batelco to offer high speed (Broadband) internet services at lower prices. NGN combines voice and data on the same network which gives a considerable improvement on service provisioning time.

"Batelco's network strategy is to create a data centric network capable of supporting Data, Voice and Multimedia services competitively," said Batelco Networks & Technology General Manager Ebrahim Zainal.

"This is a critical milestone for Batelco to modernize its network and to provide enhanced services to customers."

"Once complete, Bahrain's residential and business customers will enjoy the benefits of state-of-the-art integrated communications services that are on a par with the best the world has to offer."

"The NGN infrastructure will also be a key factor in ensuring that Bahrain remains an attractive business base for both regional and international companies as well as foreign investors,"

concluded Mr. Zainal.
