The National Health Insurance Company, Daman, yesterday hosted an interactive public seminar to support and educate patients with Type 2 Diabetes on safe fasting as they prepare for Ramadan. More than 350 diabetic patients and their families attended the event.

The seminar was organized by the company's Health Support team, where advice was shared on how to manage diabetes and maintain healthy habits while fasting.

Nutritionists provided participants with ideas and plans to help manage difficulties that might be faced during the Holy Month. Tips on what to eat, portion size and preferential times of eating, a common issue with many Muslims, were shared with participants.

A speaker from the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Dr. Anas Mohamed Qassar, was present to highlight the religious significance of Ramadan and the benefits of fasting. The seminar also included a demonstration of simple exercises by a fitness instructor that participants can perform at home during the evening.

Commenting on the success of the event, Dr. Alfons Grabosch, Health Support Manager at Daman, said, "We are pleased to see so many people interested in taking control of their health during Ramadan, a time when patients with Type 2 Diabetes should take extra care of their eating habits. The number of participants is evidence of the public's high interest in receiving such information."

The event also provided an opportunity for the audience to engage with the experts in a set of interactive Q & A sessions and group games. Participants were also guided through specially designed 'Lilly Diabetes Conversation Maps' - a learning tool to help diabetics better understand and express their concerns regarding diabetes.

The event concluded with a nutritious meal to demonstrate the ideal portions for healthy eating during Ramadan.

Dr. Sven Rohte, Daman's Chief Commercial Officer, said, "Daman is committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of the community it serves. The workshop seminar is just one part of Daman's wider initiative to realize this commitment. Through raising awareness and educating the public on key health issues, we are extending the unique Health Support services our members enjoy."

Daman will also draw the general public's attention to the importance of healthy eating and physical activity by launching a UAE-wide public awareness campaign during Ramadan to encourage people to reflect on their dietary habits while fasting and consider healthier options.
