ADEC schools are well-prepared to start 2012/2013 academic school year

The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) is well prepared to start its 2012/2013 academic school year, with more than 13,000 well prepared teaching and administrative staff returning back to their schools since September 2.

More than 127,000 students including around 11,000 new students across 265 public schools across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (123 schools in Abu Dhabi, 111 in Al Ain and 31 schools in Al Gharbia) are due to return back to their schools on Sunday September 9th 2012.

H.E. Mr. Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of School Operations at ADEC, said that all necessary preparations have been set before the beginning of the new academic school year in order to ensure that all the needs of students and staff members are met.

"Preparations included planning for textbook distribution, maintenance and refurbishment works, transportation, recruitment of new teachers and completing ICT infrastructure in all schools," said Mr. Al Dhaheri, who added that 404 positions for Emirati teachers were made available to work in different public schools. 57 additional EMTs and AMTs were also hired after covering the gaps resulting from resignations and end of contracts.

In addition, Emirati teachers will teach English, Mathematics and Science in English in accordance with ADEC's New School Model standards for the very first time.

"Routine maintenance works were carried out in all schools, while 170 schools were subject to refurbishment. In some other schools, air-condition units were also replaced," he said, adding that ADEC and Ministry of Education textbooks were supplied to schools at the end of the previous school year with 61826 Cycle 1 books, 39145 Cycle 2 books, 9610 Grade 10 books, 7500 Grade 11 books and 8985 Grade 12 books. Books will be distributed to students on the first day of the new school year."

ADEC also provided schools with an additional 55 buses raising the total number of school buses to 1746 across the Emirate, concluded Mr. Al Dhaheri.
