ADFCA board approved regulation on animal production establishments

The new regulation seeks to regulate the operations, activities and practices of the various types of commercial animal production Establishments in the emirate.

Compliance with the regulation is mandatory for obtaining the license for the intended type of activity and is aimed at fulfilling all the basic requirements of that protect animal health bio-security and animal welfare to enhance public health and the safety of food products of animal origin.

HE Dr. Mariam Harib, Executive Director of Policy and Regulation at ADFCA said the regulation consisted of 50 articles tackled over 10 chapters. "They cover the general conditions required in all types of establishments and farms and include specifications on the location, building, pens, breeding enclosures, veterinary supervision, bio-security and others. Moreover; they cover the requirements governing production farms for various types of animals such as Dairy, Sheep and Goat, Camel milk, Poultry farms for meat and eggs production, Fish farming and aquaculture in addition to Bee keeping and honey production," she explained.

HE also said that the regulation also covered livestock markets in the emirate. "It aims at more efficient management of animal production farms, thereby achieving the principal objectives of the agricultural policy of the emirate in regard to the protection of animal aspect of agriculture. Those objectives include disease control, better implementation of the programs of controlling epidemics, conservation of local animal wealth and its protection from potential threats and emergencies and optimize animal wealth contributions towards food security achievement in the country," she concluded.
