- PRESS RELEASE
ADIPEC, the annual Abu Dhabi Petroleum Exhibition and Conference, launches its agenda-setting ADIPEC Awards - Excellence in Energy 2013. The Awards aim to recognise excellence in individual projects and departments of gas and oil companies in the Middle East and North Africa region; and to support development of a stronger, even more successful gas and oil business community throughout the region.
He adds, "This year, we are introducing new categories to the Awards, that we believe will help stimulate the debate about the future shape of the region's energy business."
"Winning one of the hotly-contested awards sends a clear message to the industry: that you are at the top of your game; that your peers recognise this; and that others should benchmark themselves against your outstanding performance," he states.
This year sees a number of new judges, new categories, and more excitement than ever before as the new awards are designed to highlight the issues facing the regional gas and oil industry in the coming years.
There are four categories that will remain the same each year in the competition. They are Best Gas & Oil Project; Best Gas & Oil Innovation or Technology; Best Gas and Oil HSE Project and Best CSR Initiative.
In addition, a further fresh group of two additional categories will be selected, based on the agenda for that edition of ADIPEC, market needs and trend analysis.
The additional categories for the ADIPEC Awards - Excellence in Energy 2013 are two which will help define and support future industry issues: Empowerment of Women in Gas and Oil Industry and the Young ADIPEC Engineer.
The deadline for entries is August 1, 2013. Simple entry forms and instructions on how to enter are available at adipec.com/awards.
Industry movers and shakers form the Regional Select Judging panel, made up of around 20 senior business leaders from organisations including: Al Jaber Group, ADCO, BAPCO, JODCO, KOTC, Kuwait Energy, Mubadala Petroleum, NDC, Partex Oil and Gas, PDO, PricewaterhouseCoopers, QP, Schlumberger, Senergy, Shell, Statoil, TAQA, The Petroleum Institute and TOTAL.
The judging panel will receive all the entries by September 1, and deliver their independent evaluations by October 1. The panel then meets in October for final deliberation over who will take this year's most coveted energy awards, presented at a ceremony during ADIPEC, on November 10, 2013.
New judge Sara Akbar, CEO of Kuwait Energy Co, says, "Any award that recognises the hard work of dedicated people in our industry is important. The MENA region is one of the key geographical areas for the oil and gas industry in the world, and it is through awards like ADIPEC's that the excellent work of companies in the region is highlighted and celebrated."
"I am delighted to have the opportunity to sit on the Regional Select Jury and to assess the entries for this year's ADIPEC awards. I believe in promoting the expertise and achievements of oil and gas companies in the MENA region, and the ADIPEC awards are a fantastic forum by which to do this," she says.
Steve Peacock, Chief Operating Officer, Mubadala Petroleum, also a new judge for 2013, described his motivation for volunteering time to act as a judge, "There is so much excellent work that takes place in our industry that often goes unrecognised or taken for granted, despite the fact that it either forms the fundamental underpinnings to enormous amounts of investment, or provides the platform for innovative leaps in what can be achieved within a business."
"For the industry's reputation, for the region's reputation, and for the motivation of our staff, it is critical to occasionally pause and take time out to recognise and celebrate this wealth of exciting work taking place," he says.
The ADIPEC Awards - Excellence in Energy 2013 are sponsored by OMV, Partex Oil and Gas and JODCO.
The 2012 Awards involved 170 entries from 15 countries entering to win six awards. The ceremony was attended by more than 750 senior regional industry representatives.
