ADMA-OPCO marks 16th National Environment Day

In keeping with its ecological ethics and sound environmental practices, the Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO) commemorated the 16th National Environment Day, with an impressive sustainability awareness event on Das Island, Abu Dhabi, on February 7th.

Held in presence of Dr. Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, Environmental Advisor to the Ajman Government, the Senior Management of ADMA-OPCO, representatives of ADGAS, and a big crowd of the two companies' employees, the event featured a series of enlightening presentations and films on clean energy, global warming causes, carbon footprint and cultural and behavioral challenges. Significantly present at the event were female students from the Sharjah Women's College - Higher Colleges of Technology who delivered a telling presentation titled "My Climate -My Responsibility."

"ADMA-OPCO is a pioneering organization with many valuable contributions to the protection of the environment," said Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Nuaimi, affectionately known as the Green Sheikh for his environmental work. Sheikh Abdul Aziz has recently been named the 16th ambassador of the Earth Condominium, an organization working for the protection of the planet and preservation of peace. He delivered an inspirational presentation on environmental protection that captured the imagination of the audience thanks to its vivid content and his eloquent style.

"I admire leaders who seek to enhance every single aspect of their people's lifestyle, atop of whom comes late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, God bless his soul. Our leader was an earth and desert lover who loved falconry and horses, and bred camels to preserve the natural heritage of his country. His love for the environment and culture was infinite and he was committed to each member of society," he enthused.

Accentuating the religious significance of environmental protection, Sheikh Abdul Aziz concluded his talk with a saying by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): "If you have a sapling, if you have the time, be certain to plant it, even if Doomsday starts to break forth."

Highlighting ADMA-OPCO's environmental contributions, Chief Executive Officer of ADMA-OPCO Mr. Ali Rashid Al-Jarwan, in his opening speech of the event, celebrated this year under the theme "The Living Desert", said, "We dearly cherish our environment because it is an integral part of our country, our history and our heritage. ADMA-OPCO, following the vision of the wise leadership of our country, strictly adheres to professionalism in meeting the international standards, sparing no effort to spread an environmental culture amongst its employees by carrying out many environmental awareness programs and adopting the Zero-Flaring Project, among a series of other eco-friendly initiatives."

Mr. Al-Jarwan reiterated the company's resilient commitment to the protection of the environment on Das Island despite the major projects now being executed and commissioned, atop of which come the Integrated Gas Project (IGD), the Offshore Associated Gas (OAG) Project, and the New Das Extension.

"Das Island will receive tens of thousands of people over the coming years, which means more challenges, including the introduction of residential and basic services. But thanks to the support of our government and the Supreme Petroleum Council, we will keep our resilience, agility and robustness of action to iron out all difficulties in collaboration with ADGAS and other sister companies under the guidance of ADNOC."

The paramount importance attached by the company to environment was signified by symbolic tree planting on Zayed Garden in which Sheikh Abdul Aziz joined hands with the CEO and the rest of ADMA-OPCO senior officials who attended the function.

An enjoyable highlight of the function was a comic play organized by Das Community Club on the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and rationalizing water use.

The event was wrapped up with an award ceremony where the CEO recognized Sheikh Abdul Aziz for his environmental achievements and the Sharjah Women's College students who contributed to the Environment Day.

A photo gallery was organized by the Emirates Heritage Club on the sidelines of the event featuring pictures of nature spectacles.
