Adobe Systems Incorporated MENA has teamed up with the Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA) at the 31st Sharjah International Book Fair held at the Expo Centre Sharjah.

A highlight of Adobe's participation was a joint presentation with EIPA on digital publishing trends and the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in digital publishing.

The presentation made by Major Dr. Abdelrahman Almuaini on behalf of Major General Dr. Abdul Quddus Abdul Razak Obaidli, Director of the General Administration of Total Quality Performance at Dubai Police and President of EIPA, provided an overview of IPR, the legislative development of IPR in the UAE, actions to be taken in cases of IPR violation and EIPA's role in protecting IPR.

"The Sharjah International Book Fair presented a perfect platform to discuss and underline the various developments taking place in the publishing domain, especially digital publishing. The rapid technological advancements coupled with the increasing popularity of tablet PCs and e-book readers have opened up new opportunities and challenges for the publishing sector, including IPR violation, which need to be addressed by exchanging best practices and ideas at high-profile events such as these," said Major General Dr. Obaidli.

Abdallah Saqqa, General Manager, Adobe Systems MENA, said, "Protection of intellectual property rights continues to be high on the agenda for Adobe. Technology is steadily changing the way most of us read books, which consequently is posing fresh challenges from an IPR perspective. The Sharjah International Book Fair served as an excellent avenue to create greater awareness on this issue and share views with industry peers, through the support of the Emirates Intellectual Property Association."
