- PRESS RELEASE
Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC), the governmental body overseeing Abu Dhabi's Information Technology agenda, recently concluded an Open Day event, which served as a training programme for women participating in the upcoming second round of the e-Citizen training course.
The e-Citizen Programme provides basic training in online interaction, practical applications of the acquired computer skills and the use electronic government services.
Organized as a complementary initiative to the Abu Dhabi Government's strategy, the second round of e-Citizen Programme aims to enhance digital literacy among women and support their active participation in the social and economic growth of the Central, Eastern and Western Regions of Abu Dhabi.
Rabaa Amer, Strategy & Planning Analyst, ADSIC, said, "The e-Citizen Programme is a crucial initiative that will further enhance the digital transformation of Abu Dhabi. It aims to empower citizens to become more participative and productive members of the society through the use of various technology platforms being introduced by the government. Our partnership with the Family Development Foundation is in line with our strategy to reach out and cater to the specific requirements of a much broader range of social groups. The overwhelming response that we have received during the training programme underlines the impact of this programme on the lives of citizens, their families and the society in general."
Hamda Ghanem Al Hajeri, Community Services Division Director, Family Development Foundation, said, "Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre plays a very important role in promoting digital literacy in the emirate through initiatives such as the e-Citizen Programme. One of the major benefits of this programme is that it allows citizens from all segments of the society to fully take advantage of various e-government services that are now being increasingly introduced in the emirate. Women, in particular, will greatly benefit from this Programme as it helps them remain up-to-date with the latest advances in technology and best practices that have a concrete impact in their families. The Family Development Foundation is therefore pleased to be part of this unique programme."
The e-Citizen Programme provides training on computer use, understanding hardware and software, dealing with files and folders, working with frames, dealing with simple software, browsing the internet and using e-mail.
Participants will also learn about using research methods and reviewing information, and paying attention to the dangers associated with the use of the internet. An accredited certification stating the completion of the training course will be awarded to all those who complete the programme.
The first round of the e-Citizen Programme was held in April 2012 in cooperation with the Family Development Foundation (FDF). Since its inception in 2005, ADSIC has been supervising the implementation of Abu Dhabi's e-Government programme in coordination with the emirate's government entities. It strategically focuses on efficiency and end-users as well as cross-entity and comprehensive holistic design.
