Al Tayer participates in opening session of rail leaders summit in Berlin

The German capital Berlin has kicked off the International Trade Fair for Transport Technology (InnoTrans 2012), featuring participation of 2500 firms and organizations hailing from 47 countries around the globe.
His Excellency Matar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, headed RTA's delegation taking part in the event comprising RTA Board Member & CEO Mohammed Obaid Al Mulla, CEO of Public Transport Agency Essa Abdul Rahman Al Dossari, and a host of directors & engineers.
Al Tayer accompanied by RTA's delegation attended the opening ceremony that had been held under the auspices of His Excellency Dr. Peter Ramso, German Transport Minister, in the presence of Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission for Transport Affairs, and several transportation officials in European countries.
He also attended the opening session of the Conference of rail leaders; featuring participation of presidents of authorities & operators of rail systems as well as heads of manufacturers of rail systems worldwide.
The summit revealed that there are 100 metro projects and 400 tram projects currently being constructed across the world. It also discussed the key future rail projects where the participants underscored the importance of expanding government investments in rail and mass transit projects as they are environment-friendly mobility systems, and meet the growing needs for mobility and supply.
In addition to reserving the trains rights of way for the future and emphasizing the governments that the reservation of these rights of way is considered one of the important decisions in the strategic urban planning.
During the summit, unifying the European legislations between cities dating back to the year 1936 was discussed for the role they play in the integration of trains and their specifications, and strengthening the train lines between European cities for the importance of mass transit and reduce the use of vehicles, in addition to the issue of energy conservation where German companies succeeded in manufacturing modern trains capable of lowering the energy consumed between 30% - 50% the level of noise in cities was also discussed, and the cancellation of financial incentives that are specialized in reducing the noise in German cities because of its negative financial impact on the budgets of the European. During the summit, more than 150 new transportation systems were displayed.
Al Tayer and the accompanying delegation toured various stands of the Expo to check the latest rail technologies introduced to the design of carriages of passengers & goods, subassembly, electromechanical systems, catering & travel services, technologies & accessories of tunnels construction, communication & safety engineering, ventilation systems, power supply & lighting, interior finishing of tunnels in addition to maintenance techniques and building products. The Expo also includes arenas for exhibiting cutting-edge technologies of public buses, terminals, passenger information systems, management and operation of taxicabs, and traffic management.
Al Tayer said, "RTA participation in InnoTrans Conference & Expo 2012; which is the biggest specialized rail exhibition worldwide, is part of its endeavours to keep pace with the accelerating changes taking place in the rail industry, and familiarizing with the best global expertise and practices adopted in the construction, operation and maintenance of various mass transit systems, safety & security procedures in metro networks, and quality services delivered to passengers. The Expo also offers a perfect opportunity to meet with manufacturers of trains and various mobility systems, and keeps RTA in touch with the international experts in the field of railways in particular and transportation in general."

A full range of rail vehicles are presented in static displays on the Messe Berlin tracks located outside the exhibition halls. Other key InnoTrans features include railway infrastructure, interiors, public transport and tunnel construction. RTA is participating in this event through a large stand showcasing public transport systems in Dubai Emirate; depicting the growth chart of public transport sector in Dubai Emirate, including the past & present development phases of mass transit systems; which encompass the Dubai Metro, state-of-the-art public buses, taxicabs and a wide range of marine transit modes. The Stand also gives a future perspective of public transport in Dubai, and screens the programs & initiatives introduced by the RTA to encourage residents & visitors to migrate from using private cars to public transport means such as Wojhati, Awselni and Sharekni.
A slot in the stand has been dedicated to showcase the MENA Centre of Transport Excellence; which was established to capitalize on the huge successes made by the 59th UITP Congress & Exhibition hosted by Dubai in April 2011, culminating the partnership between the RTA and the UITP. It is noteworthy that such partnership also provides for holding a Public Transport Congress & Exhibition in Dubai biannually for 10 years in collaboration with the Dubai World Trade Center.
