Al Wakra Hospital hosts community event

Al Wakra Hospital, Hamad Medical Corporation's (HMC) eighth and newest hospital, recently held an event for members of the local community to introduce them to the facility.

Held on the grounds of the hospital on December 15, the event saw members of the Al Wakra community and gather to celebrate the achievement of opening the hospital.

Mr. Johannes Kedzierski, Chief Executive Officer of Al Wakra Hospital, delivered a speech at the event thanking invitees and staff for their hard work and dedication. Mr. Kedzierski also honored leaders, directors and staff for their efforts in envisioning and creating the hospital.

Mr. Ali Al Khater, Executive Director of Corporate Communications and Mr. Ali Hassan Rashid, Director of Implementation and Innovation at Al Wakra Hospital escorted the invitees on a tour of the new hospital.

"We would like to thank His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, for opening this large-scale hospital and the community members of Al Wakra and staff for attending this ceremony. I am personally proud of this achievement, as a resident of Al Wakra, which makes accessing healthcare much easier," Mr. Al Khater said.

The impressive 210 bed facility (which has a flexible capacity of up to 260 beds) will serve the growing communities of Al Wakra and Doha International Airport as well as the population living in the south of the country. The hospital also includes 96 critical care and observation beds.

With more than 200 doctors, the new hospital is highly equipped and houses 15 operation theatres, emergency departments for adults, children and maternity, as well as the diagnostic imaging department which is equipped with MRI and CT scanners.

"Having a large-scale highly developed hospital in Al Wakra translates HH the Emir vision of extending specialist medical services in Qatar. Our country has been providing us with primary healthcare services for years at al Wakra healthcare center, and now we have a specialist hospital of Al, which we consider a valuable addition that we must thank our country and the health sector for," said His Excellency Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Thani who attended the event.

Sheikh Ahmad Mohammad Al Boinin said: "Al Wakra Hospital is a significant facility for Al Wakra community. Al Wakra Hospital has state-of-the-art equipment, provided our community with a high quality healthcare service that will work together with the healthcare center. We would like to thank our country for such a great facility."

Community member Dr. Saif bin Saeed Al Suweidi said: "The Al Wakra Hospital with all of the capabilities and supporting services is what this community and its surrounding were is hoping for. People will no longer need to travel to Doha to seek treatment and diagnosis at Hamad General Hospital. We would like to congratulate ourselves and to thank our country and each one who participated in this large-scale achievement."
