Alba boosts eco-friendly credentials with participation in Bahrain International Garden Show 2013

The Bahrain International Garden Show 2013 is being organised under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, and the support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King of Bahrain and the President of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development.

The Bahrain International Garden Show 2013 - organised by the National Initiative for Agricultural Development - is being held under the theme: Investing in Agriculture. It will promote commercial opportunities available for agriculture and offer recommendations for a variety of projects across the agricultural value chain.

Alba will have a large stand at the event that will showcase eco-friendly measures taken by the company, the importance given to sustainability while extending the green cover across the plant and exhibit some of the plants grown within the smelter.

During the event, Alba will also launch a book that will provide a pictorial guide on the diverse vegetation that exists and thrives within the confines of the smelter.

Commenting on Alba's participation in the Bahrain International Garden Show 2013, Acting Chief Support Functions Officer, Abdul Rahman Janahi, said, "Alba recognises that a strong ecosystem is crucial for developing a sustainable environment. This has been our experience for the past forty years in spearheading an industry that contributes substantially to Bahrain's GDP, and which has enabled aluminium to be the kingdom's second major export after oil. In this respect, there is a close parallel with the agricultural sector that presents immense potential for growth, self-sufficiency and high returns for those keen on investing in the sector. Our support for this event is not only to promote a greener Bahrain but also to generate greater awareness of the agricultural sector's ability to provide both food and economic security."

Alba's success in enforcing strict environmental policies can be measured by the evergreen 10 hectare HRH Princess Sabeeka Oasis located on the south side of the plant. Established in 2005, it boasts more than 7,600 trees, a fruit and vegetable garden as well as the largest artificial lake in Bahrain teeming with marine life.
