- PRESS RELEASE
Aluminium Bahrain BSC (Alba)'s commitment to promote zero accidents across the organisation received an impetus with the official launch of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Week.
Also present at the event were high officials from leading public and private sector establishments and senior officials from Alba including members of Alba Labour Union and employees.
The HSE Zero Accidents Week has been organised with the specific objective of enhancing awareness of health, safety and environment related issues amongst employees and contract staff; encourage employees to make safety a priority; boost greater interaction between employees and management in upholding safety goals; and finally, utilise the HSE Week for community outreach programmes.
The event will also provide opportunity to highlight the three Zero Accidents Principle, namely, ownership of safety is everyone's responsibility; working safely is a condition of employment; and all work related injuries and illnesses are preventable.
One of the highlights of the opening ceremony was a demonstration by Alba Riders Team who toured various townships in Bahrain with safety messages before coming to Alba and touring the plant on their bikes.
Commenting on Alba's HSE Zero Accidents Week, the Chief Executive, Tim Murray, said, "Safety is an intrinsic part of Alba's work culture, a priority focus in every area of our operations and a key component of our charter that states - if you don't work safely you don't work here. For Alba, the goal is not about merely reducing accidents or minimising risky behaviour but about developing a zero accident work environment. We believe this is good for our employees, good for the industry and good for business as well. The HSE Zero Accident Week will provide opportunities to discuss how this can be achieved, learn about challenges and how to address them, and most importantly consider ways of translating these ideas into concrete action plans."
The week-long Alba HSE Zero Accidents Week will take place at the Alba plant and include lectures, presentations, safety demonstrations, competitions, film session, and community outreach programmes.
