- PRESS RELEASE
Aldar Academies have launched a water conservation initiative to raise awareness of the dire global water problem and to help a school in Ethiopia gain access to clean water through the installation of water tanks and pipes for rainwater harvesting.
The program was inspired by the two founders of Cycle for Water, who travelled 30,000km on bamboo bikes from the tip of Alaska down to Antarctica to raise awareness of the one billion people that do not have access to clean water. Over the course of last week Joost Notenboom and Michiel Roodenburg spoke to the students at Pearl Primary School, Al Mushrif School, Al Bateen School, Al Yasmina School, Al Muna School, and Al Ain International School about their adventures during the journey.
Inspiring and empowering the children to make a difference themselves, the program will help to build a clean water facility in Ethiopia while the children and their parents watch the progress through video and photography updates.
"The response from the students at Aldar Academies has been fantastic," Joost explained, "Hundreds of kids are looking up at us with big eyes as they listen to our stories and watch our videos. We have even had students emailing us on our website when they get home to ask us more questions."
"This is a very special initiative for us at Aldar Academies as part of our commitment to instill a global awareness and a sense of responsibility and empowerment in our students," said Nilay Ozral, Director - Aldar Academies. "We look forward to seeing the water project in Ethiopia in action and contributing to a better life for the children and families living there."
