Alila Jabal Akhdar Resort construction work crosses 60%

The Sultanate' tourism-related development, hospitality management and investment company, Omran, announced that it has passed the 60% construction mark of its 2,000 meter hilltop luxury project, the Alila Jabal Akhdar Resort.

Set to open its doors in December 2013, the project is currently 8% ahead of schedule. Nasser Al Maqbali, Chief Operating Officer at Omran expressed his delight on the progress achieved on the project to date. He said that the Alila Jabal Akhdar Resort is set to become a pinnacle in the Sultanate's budding tourism sector and is expected to attract local, regional and international visitors.

Commenting on the progress, Al Maqbali said, "The planned construction of the Alila Jabal Akhdar Resort for this period was to complete 51.73%. Today, we have successfully passed this target thanks to the efforts and dedication of our staff and contractors."

He added, "The project has been awarded a 90 day extension for a variation order for constructing an additional building that was not part of the preliminary design, however, we will only use this extension if absolutely necessary."

With the majority of raw materials being sourced directly from local suppliers wherever possible, the Alila Jabal Akhdar Resort has demonstrated Omran's commitment to building projects that have a direct economic return on the local community. Omran has also made many of its machinery and equipment at the disposal of the Al Jabal Al Akhdar residents to utilize whenever required.

The Alila Resort is being built to meet the globally recognised LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program. LEED provides building owners and operators with a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. Such elements include an environmentally and economically efficient sewage treatment plant that has been engineered to dramatically reduce water consumption by 35% on the project site.

Set amongst a rugged yet mesmerising landscape that overlooks a dramatic valley with breathtakingly magnificent views of the Hajar Mountains, the luxury resort and spa development will feature 86 suites and spa facilities, alongside a cliff-side restaurant and pool. Alila Hotels and Resorts were selected to be the strategic partners for Omran based on their extensive track record of managing similar award winning boutique properties across Asia.
