  • PRESS RELEASE

Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) expressed its gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, for making the 'Mir Ramadan' project a round-the-year initiative.

Mir Ramadan, an annual initiative hosted during the Holy Month of Ramadan, offers rice, flour and other essential commodities to UAE nationals at subsidized prices.Under the new directive, the initiative will offer an increased number of subsidized goods throughout the year and include commodities such as dates, cooking oils, juices, bottled water, and tomato paste.

According to AMAF, the expanded scope of the project will prove highly beneficial to more than 2,000 orphaned children and minors under its care, saving them thousands of dirhams across the year and not just during Ramadan.

The subsidized commodities will support AMAF's objective to provide high quality care to the orphans and minors through obtaining nutritious and healthy food for them at affordable prices and making a real difference to their health and quality of life.

His Highness the President of the UAE has tasked Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation to execute the direction from Junein response to the outcomes of an extensive study on the 'Mir Ramadan' project.

His Excellency Khalid Rashid Al Thani, Deputy Secretary General, AMAF, said:"We thank His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, may God protect him, for his benevolent gesture that reflects his keenness to ensure the well-being of Emiratis. The UAE nationals are privileged to have a leadership that places people as a top priority. We are confident that the expanded scope of Mir Ramadan will benefit a larger number of nationals, including minors. For us at AMAF, the initiative will make a significant difference to 80 per cent of our beneficiaries, particularly minors."

The Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation is entrusted with the long term welfare of minors and orphans in Dubai through the careful protection and growth of their financial assets and overseeing their social and human needs. The organisation's mission is to ensure that each and every minor under its care becomes a healthy adult and a contributing member to the local and global community. AMAF is a role model for endowments: it currently sponsors 2,250 minor orphans and oversees the financial affairs of more than 400 legally incompetent beneficiaries. AMAF has also increased its funds-portfolio to five in number and includes allocations for Islamic affairs, education, healthcare, social affairs and charitable purposes.
