Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is set to announce next week layoffs that could impact a significant percentage of its staff, CNET has reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The chipmaker could let go 20% to 30% of its employees within coming weeks, although the sources said the number of affected workers might also be lower. This will be the company's second big staff cut in the past year. AMD laid off about 10% of its staff a year ago. At the time, the company said the move would allow it to focus on new growth areas such as lower power processors.
