American Hospital Dubai appoints American Board Certified Ophthalmologist to the Hospital's Department of Opthalmology

The American Hospital Dubai has announced the appointment of Dr Ammar Safar, Ophthalmologist, to the Department of Ophthalmology at the Dubai campus. Dr Safar is American Board Certified in Ophthalmology and joins the Hospital from the Department of Ophthalmology, Jones Eye Institute, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, USA, where he held the position of Associate Professor and Director of Retina Surgery.
Dr. Safar undertook his medical training at Aleppo University School of Medicine in Syria, before moving to the United States for post-graduate training. He specialised in Ophthalmology at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington D.C., where he also served as a Chief Resident. He then undertook an additional two-year fellowship training in Vitreo-Retinal Diseases & Surgery at the University Of Texas, Southwestern Medical center in Dallas. Dr Safar then joined the Jones Eye Institute before relocating to Dubai.
In addition to his medical roles, Dr Safar has also taught, researched and published extensively and also led clinical trials as well as participated in NIH (National Institute of Health) funded multi-center clinical trials. He holds a number of academic affiliations and his numerous awards include a one million dollar endowed Chairmanship received in April 2009.
Dr. Safar is a member of several professional associations including the American Academy Of Ophthalmology; American Society of Retina Specialists; American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery; The Association for Research In Vision and Ophthalmology ARVO; and American College of Surgeons. His clinical interests include Diabetic Retinopathy, Age-related Macular Degeneration, Retinal Detachments, Retinal Vascular occlusions and anterior segment surgery.
