Android secures 31% smartphone market share

Global research firm Gartner has said smartphones have captured an estimated 44% of all mobile phone sales in the fourth quarter of last year, with Android smartphones taking 31% of all mobile phone shipments and iOS in second place at 9%, Forbes has reported. Android smartphones grew 88% year-on-year with iOS at 23%, while Blackberry and Symbian (Nokia) reported 44% and 85% declines year-on-year, respectively, the report said.
