US energy explorer Apache Corp has said it plans to drill more than 200 wells in Egypt in 2013, following its recent success in the country, UPI has reported. The Houston-headquartered firm tested production at the Amoun NE-1X discovery at the combined rate of 3,186 barrels of oil and condensate and 11 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. The latest discoveries confirm there are "multiple opportunities" to take advantage of the exploration and development potential in Egypt, said Thomas Maher, Apache's general manager for Egypt. Proven oil reserves in Egypt are estimated around 4.4 billion barrels, according to the US Energy Department's Energy Information Administration. It's the second-biggest oil producer in the region outside of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
