Arabic website for information on coastal conditions in Dubai

In line with Dubai Municipality's vision of applying the best practices on monitoring and managing the Dubai coastline, the Coastal Zone and Waterways Management Section at the civic body has newly released an Arabic version of its website which details the coastal monitoring programme that has generated and continues to enhance a comprehensive database used in numerous coastal engineering applications.

It was stated by Alyaa Al- Harmoodi, Head of Coastal Zone and Waterways Management Section functioning under the Environment Department of the civic body.

This site aims to provide information on waves, current, surface elevation, wind, oil spill and inundation along Dubai coastline and the Arabian Gulf.

"We hope you will find it to be an informative source of Dubai coastal marine data. Registered users can access free of charge graphical plots of the last 24 hours of monitored parameters as well as selected documentation and image." Alyaa said while talked about the new site.

She said the newly launched website hits near about 8,000 visits monthly.

The Coastal Zone & Waterways Management Section (CWMS) is part of the Environment Department which is under the Health, Safety and Environment Control Sector of the Dubai Municipality.

The CWMS oversees the sustainable development and the utilization of Dubai coastal and marine environment through the formulation and implementation of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) plans and procedures within the scope of responsibilities of Dubai Municipality.

The section contributes significantly to the decision-making, understanding, analysis and study of coastal phenomena aimed at achieving a sustainable coastal development.
