  • PRESS RELEASE

Averda announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide waste management services in Rabat, which will see it serving 200,000 of the city's residents on a daily basis. Rabat is the seventh capital city in Averda's portfolio, with the company and its subsidiaries currently providing waste management services in Abu Dhabi, Beirut, Doha, Dublin, Muscat and Riyadh.

Averda, the largest environmental solutions provider in the Middle East and North Africa region and one of the fastest growing in the world, has been awarded the contract to provide general waste collection and city cleaning services in the 'Arrondissement de Yacoub El Mansour' district of Rabat.

"As the nation's capital, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an international tourist destination, we remain committed to maintaining Rabat's image and having an effective waste management system forms an important component of that commitment," said Mr. Benzha Abdelkarim - the Secretary General of the Wilaya of Rabat.

"Our decision to award this contract to Averda, as part of an open and regulated tender, was based on a combination of its technical competency, its international experience and its ability to deliver value," he added.

As part of the programme, Averda will introduce sustainable waste handling methods, innovative environmental solutions and a state-of-the-art fleet - including GPS-enabled mechanical sweepers which will be tracked for greater efficiency. The company expects to manage an estimated 70,000 tons of waste per year in Arrondissement de Yacoub El Mansour; an amount that is equivalent to 125 fully loaded 'super jumbo' airplanes.

"We are pleased to have been selected to contribute to Rabat's waste management efforts and we look forward to showcasing our international expertise and innovative solutions through our work in the capital," said Maysarah Khalil Sukkar, Chairman, Averda.

"In addition to reflecting our rapidly expanding commercial footprint, which now spans three continents and 10 countries, this contract is testament to the strength and effectiveness of our integrated approach to waste management," he added.

Averda's Integrated Waste and Resource Management System is based on cleaning areas with trained manpower and specialized vehicles; collection of waste using technologically advanced, GPS-equipped vehicles; recovery of recyclable materials from the collected waste; and disposal of waste using techniques that conform to international standards.

Wherever possible, Averda's cycle ends with eco-responsible activities such as recycling and environmental education.
Averda announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide waste management services in Rabat, which will see it serving 200,000 of the city's residents on a daily basis.
