Bahrain to auction radio spectrum

Bahrain is set to auction radio spectrum for next-generation networks, despite objections by the kingdom's three mobile operators, Gulf Daily News has reported. The existing operators said that any further competition may jeopardise their financial viability. The auction will comprise five lots of spectrum primarily for long-term evolution, or 4G networks, which the Telecoms Regulatory Authority (TRA) said were inadequate in an earlier strategy document. The winning bidders are expected to be announced in April.
