Bahrain Science Centre unveils record visitor numbers and upcoming programmes

Less than a year since Bahrain Science Centre opened to the public under the banner of Bahrain's Ministry of Human Rights and Social Development, it has hosted over 21,000 visitors from all walks of life that include students, teachers, intellectual societies and general public, who continue to be amazed by the different events and activities that has been offer on a daily basis at the venue.

Amal Al Buflasa from the Ministry of Social Development reiterated that the venue would contribute to formal and non-formal science education as she revealed the visitor numbers during a familiarization tour of the facility to Bahrain media.

The tour was preceded by a presentation by Prof Mike Bruton on the role of the Bahrain Science Centre in strengthening the science and technology culture of Bahrain and the international practices followed by MTE Studios in running the science centre to be at par with leading science centres globally.

The Bahrain Science Centre will be an active participant in this worldwide community of science centres. Amal revealed historically the ethos behind the role of setting up Bahrain Science Centre, regional events it will participate in and spoke in particular to journalists about the skeleton exhibition which she helped curate.

The media were briefed on the regular weekly programmes at the Bahrain Science Centre which includes science debates, which help to enhance the public speaking skills, science workshops, static electricity demonstrations, art workshops, MAD Science shows, animal story-telling and science talks.

"Science centres play many important roles in society," said Professor Mike Bruton, MTE Studios Director of the new Science Centre. "These roles include promoting awareness of science and technology among the youth, families and adults, supporting the school curriculum in science, mathematics and technology, and creating a forum for public debate on topical science and technology issues," he added.
