Bahrain's electricity and water affairs minister, Dr Abdulhussain Mirza has said the kingdom spends BD250m a year subsidising electricity, Gulf Daily News has reported. "This subsidy will only go up with time as costs of production are constantly going up and demand is also increasing," said Mirza. The cost of 37 fils to produce a single unit of power is borne by the government, which sells it to consumers at 16, six or three fils, depending on whether they are householders or businesses, the minister said.
